The Hierarchy Needs and Motivation
Objective
What motivates you to wake up every morning? Depending on the person you ask that question could be the answer. For a big percent of the population, the main reason for it could be just getting paid to solve economical statements of the daily routine but for others, it is another opportunity to accomplish his/her goals and work out in personal growth. It depends on the need a person has to find out the right answer.
Reflective
Motivation is a skill to drives us to do things, take up opportunities, and achieve our goals. According to the theory of Maslow about the Hierarchy of Needs, there are five types of needs: Self-Actualization, Esteem Needs, Belongingness and love needs, Safety Needs, Psychological Needs (Mcleod, 2018). The method was modified in the '70s and it was added more stages: Cognitive Needs, Aesthetic Needs, and Transcendence Needs. Understanding what drives us every day to accomplish our dreams is relevant in our Professional Development Program. This model is divided into deficiency needs and growth needs, the first ones came from the deprivation and motives people when there are incomplete. In order to do that, it is important to satisfy the first needs to grow in another type of need. The growth needs coming from a desire and not from a need. Unfortunately, people usually are focused in satisfy basic needs and they stick to it instead of advancing in the growth stage where we start developing our inner goals.
Interpretative
Everyone feels motivated for something different every day and somehow everybody has experience non of motivation. But, analyzing the statement of this theory, the first motivation as humans could find is the basic needs, this routine of survival. Additional to this, going forward we can find to be part of a society we should follow some motivational standards in all aspects depending on how we solve those necessities, we are going to aim for more.
Decisional
Motivation thrives us more, solves more needs, and makes us humans make plans in life, to project ourselves in a better stage than we were before. Personally, the basic needs as motivation are relevant but I think we still can have more than basic and feel motivated to accomplish the growth needs. Although, if there is a deficiency that needs to be solved, certainly we are focusing all our energy on that one. My purpose in understanding this theory is to internalize that there are needs that motivate me to achieve my personal and professional goals recognizing what should be done first.
